Couples Counseling Communication Skills

Many times clients at my counseling service in Chestnut Hill and Fort Washington, PA talk about not feeling heard or understood.

Friends and family members may mean well but we can all miss the mark when given an opportunity to respond to another’s pain, challenge, or struggles in a way that is impactful and meaningful.

In couples counseling or marriage therapy often both parties feel a lack of  validation.

With practice we can learn to experience and show more empathy.

According to researcher and sociologist Dr. Brene Brown, empathy fuels connection. When relationships struggle or have a lot of unresolved conflict often the connection feels broken or frayed.
